The Glasgow School of Yarn started life as a yarny party to celebrate The Yarn Cake’s first birthday, back in 2011....which means we’re 13 now! When we first opened our doors in 2010, The Yarn Cake was Scotland’s first dedicated knitting café, combining two of life’s finest pleasures under one roof: yarn and cake.

We opened in Glasgow’s West End that October to much acclaim, providing the knitters of Glasgow with a tiny oasis of calm to knit, chat, shop and eat and have been going ever since thanks to our fabulous, ever loyal customers. We are very proud to have been nominated in the British Knitting Awards every year since 2013, winning the “Best Independent Yarn Shop - Scotland” category three times, most recently in 2020. And who knows, we might know if we’ve won by the time you read this!

The founding principles – then and now - of The Yarn Cake are to supply knitters with a good range of good quality affordable yarns and a wide selection of British yarns, both commercial and indie dyed, as well as a good selection of needles, notions and Ashford spinning supplies; coupled with a welcoming
selection of German homebaking, teas, coffees and regular events to bring together Glasgow’s knitting and crafting community. Come join us for our weekly
knit night, every Thursday from 6 to 9 or check out our classes.

Whether you’re a crafter or a cake lover (or both!), our friendly and experienced team are always on hand to help.
